Job Description

The Midwife is a healthcare professional who provides comprehensive care to women throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Midwives play a crucial role in promoting maternal and child health.

Responsibilities

  • Antenatal Care:
    • Provide routine prenatal check-ups and screenings.
    • Assess fetal development and maternal health.
    • Educate pregnant women about healthy pregnancy practices and childbirth preparation.
    • Address common concerns and complications during pregnancy.
  • Childbirth:
    • Assist women in childbirth, including natural births, assisted deliveries, and cesarean sections.
    • Monitor the mother and baby during labor and delivery.
    • Provide newborn care, including resuscitation if necessary.
  • Postpartum Care:
    • Provide postpartum care, including breastfeeding support, family planning counseling, and newborn care.
    • Assess maternal and infant health and well-being.
    • Identify and address any postpartum complications.
  • Community Health:
    • Promote maternal and child health through community outreach programs.
    • Advocate for the rights and needs of women and children.
    • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and community organizations.
  • Emergency Response:
    • Respond to obstetric emergencies and provide essential care.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Midwifery degree or diploma
  • Registration with the relevant midwifery board
  • Experience in providing midwifery care
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions
  • Compassionate and caring attitude
  • Commitment to promoting maternal and child health
